Program Description:
Description
Information and Telecommunications Technologies (ICT) are increasingly ubiquitous in our world. Despite using them every day, many times our knowledge is superficial, which does not allow us to take advantage of their potential or recognize their risks. Starting from the history of computers and the Internet, we will review the rapid evolution of these technologies, focusing on some of those that have the greatest impact on society such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, Internet of things and social networks, reviewing both their potential as its risks. We will address current debates such as free vs hate speech. It is expected that, at the end of the course, the student can explain in general terms the operation of the Internet and the world of digital technology, as well as describe some of its applications and social and ethical implications, so that they can make an informed use, responsible, thoughtful and critical of these technologies. This course is 16-weeks.
